The Australian Design range belongs to this second category: a series of naturalistically modelled serving pieces in leaf and fruit forms, registered for the Australian market and produced in substantial numbers through the mid-twentieth century. The Redcurrant pattern, with its cream ground, modelled berry clusters and applied leaf forms in relief, is one of the more fully realised designs in the range — the knife included as an integral part of the set distinguishes it from the simpler dish-only pieces.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe dish is moulded in the form of a broad, lobed leaf with a serrated edge, the surface impressed with a fine vein network across the cream-glazed interior. To the upper portion of the dish a relief-modelled branch rises from a dark brown stem, carrying three overlapping leaves in two shades of green and a scattered cluster of round redcurrants in deep rose-red with black dot detailing. Further individual berries are distributed across the dish surface in the same treatment. The matching knife is flat and spatula-form, with a cream body, a small cluster of berries and a single lobed leaf modelled at the handle end in matching colours. The reverse of the dish is undecorated and shows the full Carlton Ware backstamp with Australian design registration notice and a hand-painted number 4 in black.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe glaze shows age-consistent crazing across the interior of the dish and on the reverse, which is characteristic of Carlton Ware from this period and does not affect structural integrity.
