Alfred Meakin Floral Teapot — Meadow Bouquet on Ivory, Art Deco Form, England, c.1907–1930

Some pieces were made for the cabinet. This was not one of them.

A cheerful and characterful teapot by Alfred Meakin of Tunstall, Staffordshire, in a squared Art Deco form that sits squarely in the English pottery tradition of the early twentieth century. The body is finished in warm ivory and decorated all around with a transfer-printed meadow bouquet — white daisies with yellow centres, vivid red composite blooms, and soft brown fern fronds — carried across both body panels and repeated in smaller sprays on the lid and shoulder. Gold lustre trim runs along the rims, handle terminals, and spout tip, lending the piece a quietly festive quality well-suited to its warm palette.

The panelled body rests on four small feet and features lightly embossed detailing to the lower panels. The lid is domed with a flower-bud finial, also lustre-trimmed.

Condition
In honest used condition consistent with its age. The teapot body is free of chips or cracks. The lid shows a hairline and associated crazing; these are stable and do not affect the fit or function. Gold lustre trim shows wear and patchy loss across the rim and handle terminals, as is expected and normal in pieces of this type and period. Interior shows minor tea staining. No restoration.

A teapot that has clearly known many afternoons — and looks entirely ready for more.
