Charles Frodsham & Co London | Limited Edition Sterling Silver Carriage Clock | Royal Wedding 1981 | No. 265/1000

Some pieces arrive in a collection by chance. Others are sought for years. This is the kind you don't walk away from.

When the world stopped to watch the wedding of the century, Charles Frodsham & Co — London's most distinguished clockmakers and holders of the Royal Warrant — marked the occasion with one of the most refined commemorative timepieces ever produced. Forty-four years later, this is your opportunity to own one of the finest surviving examples.

This magnificent hallmarked sterling silver carriage clock was commissioned exclusively to commemorate the marriage of HRH The Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer on 29th July 1981. Limited to just 1,000 examples worldwide, this clock bears serial number 265/1000 — a precisely documented, fully authenticated piece of twentieth-century British royal history.

The case carries full British hallmarks confirming sterling silver throughout, alongside the prestigious maker's mark of Charles Frodsham & Co — a house that has stood at the pinnacle of English horology since 1843. These clocks were built to the same exacting standards as timepieces supplied to the Royal Family themselves.

The dial presents a crisp white enamel face signed Charles Frodsham in elegant script, set within a beautifully engine-turned gilt panel and flanked by four finely reeded silver columns. Below the dial, a beautifully cast Prince of Wales feathers badge bears the motto Ich Dien — "I Serve" — a deeply personal and poignant emblem of the occasion. The ornate carrying handle is pierced with a row of three hearts, a quietly romantic detail entirely in keeping with the spirit of the commission.

Bevelled glass panels on all four sides and the top offer a full view of the gleaming brass movement within — a pleasure to observe from every angle. The clock winds, runs, and keeps excellent time, and presents in near-mint condition that speaks to a lifetime of careful, appreciative ownership.

Crucially, this example is offered as a complete set: the original Prince of Wales feathers winding key — a collector's piece in its own right — together with the original fitted presentation case and certificate of authenticity. Complete examples of this quality are exceptionally difficult to find. Most appear on the market missing the key, the case, or the certificate — often all three. This is not one of those.

With collector demand for Princess Diana memorabilia remaining as strong as ever, this clock represents not only a thing of great beauty and craftsmanship, but a sound and tangible investment in a piece of history that simply cannot be replicated.
