S. Fielding & Co. of Stoke-on-Trent traded under the Crown Devon name from the late nineteenth century, but it was in the interwar decades — the 1920s and 1930s — that the factory produced its most distinctive and collectible work. Crown Devon's Art Deco output is now recognised as among the finest of any English provincial manufacturer of the period: bold ground colours, lavish gilding, and sculptural forms that owed more to the Continent than to the conventional English tea service tradition. The Lynton shape — named and impressed into the base of the coffee pot — is one of Crown Devon's most architecturally resolved designs: the coffee pot a tall, swelling barrel form on a stepped foot, the sugar bowl a rotund globe with twin scrolled handles, the creamer a generous footed jug. Every handle, rim, and knop is finished in full burnished gold, and every interior — cup, creamer, and sugar bowl — is lined entirely in deep gold lustre, so that pouring becomes a small ceremony. The "Rd Applied For" mark and pattern number 3184 confirm this as an early registered production, placing the set in the late 1920s to early 1930s at the height of the factory's Art Deco period.

The coffee pot is a tall barrel form tapering slightly toward the shoulder, with a domed lid carrying a tight spiral gold knop — the most distinctively Art Deco detail on the set. The handle is a bold circular loop in full burnished gold; the spout tip is also gold-rimmed. The covered sugar bowl is globular with twin scrolled gold handles and matching spiral knop lid. The creamer is a footed globe jug with scrolled gold handle and fully gilded interior. The six demitasse cups are cylindrical with slightly flared rim, each carrying a small scrolled gold handle and fully gilded interior; the six saucers are flat with a simple gilt rim line. Throughout the set, the ground colour is a deep, glossy burgundy — even in tone, deeply saturated, and consistent across all fifteen pieces.

The set is in excellent unused condition. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs on any piece. Some age-related crazing is present on certain items — consistent with the age of the glaze and in no way affecting the structural integrity, the visual impact, or the usability of the set. All gilding across all fifteen pieces is in mint condition — fully intact, with no wear, rubbing, or loss anywhere.
