The cornflower was a favourite of the enamelware decorators — vivid enough to read at a distance, simple enough to stencil well, and cheerful enough to make a washstand feel less like a chore.

The cornflower was among the most widely used decorative motifs in European enamelware production across the mid-twentieth century, and it is not difficult to understand why: the intense blue reads with immediate clarity against a pale ground, the form stencils cleanly, and the addition of supporting meadow flowers — white cow parsley and wheat ears here — gives the arrangement a naturalistic quality that transcends mere pattern. This set carries one of the more accomplished examples of the cornflower treatment encountered in enamelware of this type. The arrangement on the jug in particular is full and carefully composed, with multiple blooms at varying heights, buds and seed heads filling the spaces between, and the white meadow flowers providing tonal relief. The cream-yellow ground is warm and even, giving the blue of the cornflowers greater intensity by contrast. No maker's mark is present, and the origin cannot be confirmed with certainty, though the style and quality of execution are consistent with Central or Eastern European manufacture of the mid-twentieth century.

The set comprises a tall cylindrical jug with a wide rim and loop handle, a wide washbowl, a chamber pot with loop handle, and a rectangular soap tray. All four pieces carry the cornflower decoration on a cream-yellow ground, consistent in colour and motif across the set. The jug presents the most elaborate arrangement; the bowl, chamber pot and soap tray carry simplified versions of the same composition suited to their respective forms and surfaces. The interiors of the jug, bowl and chamber pot are the same cream-yellow ground, undecorated.

All four pieces show honest age-consistent wear. There is enamel loss and rusting to the rims of the jug, bowl and chamber pot. Additional enamel loss spots are present on the exterior bodies of the jug and bowl, and on the interior of the bowl. The soap tray shows heavy rusting to all edges. The decoration on the jug and bowl remains vivid and largely intact. There are no holes in any piece.
