Royal Winton, trading name of Grimwades Ltd of Stoke-on-Trent, was the undisputed master of the all-over chintz style that became one of the defining expressions of English ceramic design between the wars. Where other potteries produced floral patterns, Royal Winton covered every surface — teapot, cup, saucer, plate, sugar bowl — in an unbroken, joyful cascade of flowers, leaving not a centimetre of plain ground visible. The effect was and remains extraordinary: a complete immersive world of colour and pattern that transforms even the simplest table into something celebratory.

The Royalty pattern (pattern no. 3079) was introduced at the 1936 British Industries Fair, one of Royal Winton's flagship promotional events, and immediately captured the public imagination. On a warm, saturated yellow ground, large open anemones and poppies in deep rose and crimson tumble through clusters of cornflowers in periwinkle blue and soft lavender, punctuated by bright orange buds and broad green leaves. The palette is bold, rich and unashamedly exuberant — a pattern that earned its name. Royalty was one of the patterns that defined Royal Winton's golden decade, and when the chintz revival of the mid-1990s saw collectors worldwide clamouring for these designs, Royalty was among the patterns Grimwades brought back into production in 1995. This set dates from that revival — made using the original pattern number, faithful to the 1930s originals in design and finish, with the same warm interior glazes and the same gold banding to rims and handles that characterises the finest Royal Winton production.

The set is presented in unused condition throughout, and the photographs confirm what that means in practice: the gilding on every piece — every rim, every handle, every spout tip — is 100% intact, bright, and unrubbed. No chips anywhere. No cracks. No crazing. This is a set that has been kept, not used, and it shows.

Description
A generous and visually stunning tea service comprising seven pieces, all decorated with the all-over Royalty chintz on yellow ground with gold banding. The teapot is of rounded, slightly squared form with a short angular spout, square-section handle, and a flat domed lid with a small round flat finial — all fully patterned. The interior of the teapot is glazed in the warm cream characteristic of Royal Winton production. Each trio consists of a teacup of generous, slightly tapering cylindrical form with a scrolled handle, a saucer, and a side plate — all surfaces fully covered in the Royalty pattern. The open sugar bowl is of hemispherical form on a low foot, exterior fully patterned, interior glazed cream, with a bright gold rim. The pattern itself features large open anemone and poppy heads in deep rose, crimson and pink, interspersed with clusters of cornflowers in blue, periwinkle and lavender, bright orange floral buds, and lush green foliage — all on a rich golden-yellow ground. Gold banding to all rims, spout tip, handle edges and finial throughout.

Condition
Unused — the exceptional and very clearly documented condition level for this set. No chips, no cracks, no crazing on any piece. The gilding across all seven pieces is in 100% perfect, unrubbed condition — bright, even and fully intact on all rims, handles, spout and finial. The interior glazes are clean.
