The kingfisher is cast in the round, with fine surface texturing across the wings, back, and breast that suggests feather structure without becoming mechanical. The bill is open, holding a fish crosswise — a fleeting moment frozen in silver. The bird stands on articulated feet, with talons clearly rendered, and circular silver rings define the eyes. It is mounted on a shaped Zimbabwean Blackwood base, ebonised and finished smooth, providing a strong tonal contrast to the silver. The Patrick Mavros assay mark is inset as a silver roundel into the wooden base, with additional hallmarks — maker’s mark, Zimbabwean sterling silver mark, and 1999 year mark — struck to the bird itself.
