Lladró | ‘Ten and Growing’ | Model 7635 | Collectors Society Anniversary | 1995
Some courage arrives all at once; the rest of us are still looking at our shoes.
Founded by the Lladró brothers near Valencia in 1953, Lladró became known for its glazed porcelain figures and softly coloured finishes. The Lladró Collectors Society began in 1985, and ‘Ten and Growing’, model 7635, was issued in 1995 to commemorate its tenth anniversary. The anniversary is recorded on the printed roundel beneath the figure.
A boy in a brown jacket, patterned tie and pale green trousers sits on a bench, his eyes lowered and his hands held together in his lap in a nervous gesture. Beside him, a girl in a pale blue and white dress leans in to kiss his cheek. Her brown hair is tied back with a blue ribbon, and a pink bow sits at the back of her dress. One hand steadies her on the bench, and the other holds a tiny porcelain flower beside her skirt. The bench has a plank-like seat on two dark, sculpted supports.
Excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or restoration. The small porcelain flower and the other delicate details are intact. There is no original box.

Collector Appeal
Created to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Lladró Collectors Society, ‘Ten and Growing’ carries clear identification: the factory mark, the impressed model number and the anniversary roundel. The intact flower and the expressive gestures reward closer inspection, and the scene’s gentle humour gives it an appeal beyond the occasion it was made for.
A kiss lasts a moment; the hesitation before it has been kept in porcelain.
