Five trios in the 'Rosalie' pattern by RC Japan — Royal Crown — represent Japanese export porcelain at its most accomplished and its most enduringly appealing. Each trio comprises a footed teacup, saucer, and side plate, all decorated in the same assured hand: scattered pink roses and small floral sprays across a white porcelain ground, contained at the upper rim by a band of gilt trellis work punctuated with scrolling cartouche motifs. Gold line trim runs at the rim and foot of each piece, lending the set a formality that stops well short of stiffness.

The porcelain itself is fine and translucent, with the clean bright white typical of quality mid-century Japanese manufacture. The cup is a generous, gently flared form on a small foot ring — well-balanced in the hand and pleasingly substantial without heaviness.
