Royal Albert's Flower of the Month Series assigned a botanical subject to each month of the year, pairing the flower with its name in gold script on the interior rim. The series was produced across several decades and in multiple forms — trios, duos, and mugs among them — and remains one of the more collectible of Royal Albert's themed ranges. December's flower is the Christmas Rose, Helleborus niger, a plant that has been cultivated in English gardens since the medieval period and which carries considerable symbolic weight: it blooms in the depths of winter, often through frost and snow, and has long been associated with hope and with the season.
The mug is of a gently flared form with a footed base, the exterior decorated with a repeating arrangement of Christmas Rose blooms — white petals blushed with pale pink, yellow-centred — set among dark holly leaves and clusters of red berries. The same motif appears on the interior, where the word "December" is written in gold script above a sprig of Christmas Rose and holly. A fine gilt line runs along the base. The handle is of a simple upright form with a small scroll detail at the lower junction.
There are no chips, cracks, or crazing. Gilding shows minor age-consistent wear.
