A pattern Royal Albert never bothered to name — which says something about how many roses they were painting in Longton in the 1970s.

Royal Albert produced a substantial volume of bone china under unnamed decorations throughout the 1970s and 1980s, particularly for the domestic retail and gift market. The black crown backstamp — Royal Albert Bone China England with no pattern name — is characteristic of this period and distinguishes these pieces from the named pattern ranges that Royal Albert registered and marketed under specific titles. The decoration here follows the format typical of the era: a large-scale rose spray dominated by a single fully open bloom in deep yellow-amber with a second rose in cerise pink and associated buds, rendered in a bold, graphic style against a plain white ground with restrained gilt rim and foot lines. The milk jug is notably large — a cream or milk jug of a size suited to a full tea or coffee service — and the open sugar bowl is of a matching footed form.

The milk jug stands on a shaped foot with a gilt line and has a gently tapering body with moulded vertical reeding to the lower body, a wide pouring lip with a gilt line to the rim, and a plain loop handle with a scroll lower terminal. The rose spray is positioned to the front face, with the open yellow rose dominant at centre, a cerise pink bud below left, a further pink bud to the right, and green foliage with stems extending in both directions. The reverse carries a smaller secondary spray. The open sugar bowl is of a wide, outward-flaring footed form with no handles, moulded reeding matching the jug, and the same rose spray treatment around the exterior with a gilt rim line and foot line.

Both pieces are in mint condition. There are no chips, cracks or crazing on either piece. The gilding on the rim lines and foot lines of both pieces is intact with no wear or loss.
