Souvenir flatware occupies an odd position between the functional and the commemorative — made to be used, but almost always preserved instead.

Cased sets of figural souvenir flatware with Dutch subject matter were produced in considerable numbers throughout the first half of the twentieth century, sold both as tourist souvenirs and as gift trade items across Europe. The tradition of Dutch figural silverware — with windmills, figures in traditional regional dress, and maritime subjects as recurring motifs — has its roots in the nineteenth century silver souvenir trade and continued well into the mid-twentieth century in both silver and silver plate. Sets of this kind were typically produced to a high decorative standard, with individually cast and finished finials rather than stamped repeats, making each fork in a matched set distinct.

Each of the six forks carries a three-tined bowl on a scrolled and beaded stem, with an individually modelled figural or architectural terminal. The six finials are, from left to right: a square-rigged sailing ship under sail, a single male figure in traditional Dutch dress, two male figures in traditional Dutch dress, a woman in traditional Dutch dress carrying a yoke with suspended pails, a man carrying a yoke with suspended pails, and a windmill with detailed architectural base. Each finial is cast with good detail and mounted at the head of a stem with foliate scrollwork at the junction.

The presentation case is covered in red grained leatherette with brass corner mounts and a brass clasp; the interior is fitted with individual slots in dark red velvet with a cream silk-lined lid.

The forks are in excellent condition with no notable plating loss, bent tines, or damage. The case closes and latches securely. The exterior of the case shows age-related wear, scuffing, and leatherette loss to the corners and edges consistent with its age; the interior is intact and sound.
