Royal Albert Sweetheart Roses Patricia Trio — Vintage Bone China Teacup Saucer & Plate, Series of Six, Deep Crimson Rose, Gold Pedestal

Named for Patricia. Made for a proper cup of tea.

There is something deeply personal about a named china pattern — and Royal Albert's Sweetheart Roses "Patricia" is one of the most romantic and sought-after in the beloved Sweetheart Roses Series of Six. Each pattern in the series was given a woman's name, and Patricia — with her great, voluptuous deep crimson roses rendered in the most painterly and naturalistic style Royal Albert ever produced — is widely considered the most dramatically beautiful of them all.

This is a single bone china trio — teacup, saucer and side plate — in genuinely lovely used condition, and it is being offered individually, making it a rare opportunity to acquire this specific named pattern as a standalone piece for a collector, a single place setting, or a gift of uncommon charm and meaning for someone called Patricia.

The design is immediately arresting. Each piece carries full-blown deep crimson roses of extraordinary size and presence — not the dainty scattered rosebuds of lesser patterns, but great dramatic blooms painted with real depth and dimension, their petals shifting from deep burgundy-crimson at the centres to softer rose and blush at the edges, surrounded by richly painted dark green foliage with detailed, naturalistic leaf rendering. The roses are large enough and boldly enough placed that they command each piece entirely — this is not background decoration but foreground drama.

The cup is a particularly fine example of mid-century Royal Albert craftsmanship. The form is a generous, wide-mouthed shape with gently angled sides — comfortable to hold and elegant in profile — with a gracefully curved handle finished in bright gold. The cup sits on a richly gilded pedestal foot — visible to beautiful effect in the photographs — a detail that gives this particular shape a grandeur and formality that elevates it above the ordinary. The interior of the cup is white bone china with a single rose bud sprig as a charming surprise for the drinker. The saucer and side plate carry the full rose arrangement across their surfaces with gold scalloped edges completing each piece.

The backstamp — clearly photographed and fully legible — reads: Sweetheart Roses — ROYAL ALBERT — Bone China — England — Series of Six — "Patricia" confirming the pattern name, series, and the prestigious Royal Albert England designation consistent with mid-20th century production.

An honest condition note:

This trio is in good used condition and presents beautifully — the bone china body is clean and bright throughout with no chips, cracks or crazing on any piece. There is some gilding loss to the gold edges — consistent with gentle use over the decades — and some light surface scratch marks visible on close inspection, clearly shown in the photographs. These are honestly disclosed and appropriately reflected in the pricing. The roses and decoration remain vivid and lovely throughout.
