The Florence pattern has outlasted most of its contemporaries — revived in 1995 after decades away, and still the first thing a chintz collector reaches for.

Grimwades Ltd, trading as Royal Winton from their Stoke-on-Trent potteries, were the pre-eminent producers of chintz ware in Britain from the 1930s through to the 1960s. Florence, with its dense black ground and full-blown florals in coral, pink, yellow, red and blue, was among the most sought-after of all their patterns. When collector demand prompted Royal Winton to revive a select range of their classic chintz patterns in 1995, Florence was a natural inclusion — and according to the seller, it was the final pattern the company produced before the revival range concluded. The 1995 pieces carry the same circular Grimwades Royal Winton backstamp used in the original production runs, with the date 1995 printed below, making attribution straightforward.

This is a large teapot in the angular upright form with a stepped pedestal base, standing square-shouldered with chamfered corners, a pronounced high-arching spout and a scroll handle. Every exterior surface — body, lid, spout, handle tab — is covered in the Florence chintz transfer, the black ground giving the coral, red, pink, yellow and pale blue florals a density and visual weight that the ivory-ground chintz patterns do not achieve. The lid is domed with a square diamond-form knop. The interior glaze is cream. The piece holds 6–8 cups.

Condition is mint unused. No chips, cracks, or crazing to the body or lid. Gilding to the spout tip, handle outline, knop and base edges is in excellent, bright condition with no loss or wear. Minor crazing is present on the reverse in the area of the backstamp only; this does not affect the exterior presentation.
