There is a particular kind of English countryside that exists only in May — all white blossom and new green leaf, before summer has decided anything.

Royal Albert introduced the Haworth pattern in 1982, taking its name from the West Yorkshire village most closely associated with the Brontë family — a moorland setting where wild roses and hawthorn blossom are as much a part of the landscape as the moors themselves. The pattern's botanical subject, rendered in the soft, naturalistic style characteristic of Royal Albert's work from this period, depicts dog rose or hawthorn-type blooms — large, open white flowers with yellow stamens and red anthers, accompanied by pink buds and a generous spread of green and golden-brown foliage on trailing stems. The overall effect is of gathered hedgerow blossom rather than cultivated garden flower, giving the pattern an unaffected, countryside quality that distinguishes it from Royal Albert's more formal rose designs.

The grouping comprises a cream jug, an open sugar bowl, and a handled cake plate. The cream jug is of a generous, low-set form with a wide pouring lip, a scrolled handle, and a shaped foot with gilt detail; the body carries a full spray of Haworth blossom across the front face. The open sugar bowl is of a similarly rounded, squat form with a shaped scalloped rim and gilt foot, decorated in the same manner. The cake plate is of a broad oval form with two upswept gilt-accented scroll handles at either side and a deeply shaped scalloped edge; the decoration is distributed around the border in several bouquet groupings, leaving the well of the plate open and uncluttered. All three pieces share the same warm cream-white ground and fine gilt edge line.

All three pieces are in mint condition. There are no chips, cracks, or crazing. The gilding is intact throughout with no wear on any piece, including the jug handle and foot details.
