Royal Albert's Memory Lane pattern is one of the most enduringly popular designs in the company's extensive twentieth-century catalogue, and its appeal is not difficult to understand. Where many Royal Albert patterns relied on the drama of cobalt grounds and heavy gilding, Memory Lane took the opposite approach: an ivory-white bone china ground of exceptional translucency, a delicate border of forget-me-not sprays in pale blue, lavender and soft pink, and the most restrained gold line detailing at the rim and foot. The result is a pattern of genuine lightness and femininity — one that has always appealed to a broad collecting audience and has remained consistently sought-after on the secondary market for decades.

The blue crown backstamp on these pieces, with the pattern name 'Memory Lane' in script, dates production to the 1970s–1980s, the later Staffordshire production era before Royal Albert's manufacturing was wound down in 2002. The cream jug is of a generous, substantially proportioned form — large enough to serve a full tea party — with a curved, flared pouring lip, a scrolling handle with a small gold accent at the upper terminal, and a domed foot with a bright gold line. The body is gracefully curved and slightly lobed, sitting on the foot with good weight and presence. The decoration consists of a single border of forget-me-not sprays encircling the upper body: the flowers are rendered in pale to medium blue with yellow centres, interspersed with smaller blooms in soft lavender and pink, on slender green stems with fine leaves. The border fades softly at its edges into the white ground, giving a watercolour-like delicacy to the overall effect. The rim is finished with a gold line, as is the foot.

The open sugar bowl is of a broad, flared campana form on a similarly domed and gold-lined foot, with a wide scalloped rim finished with a continuous gold line. The body carries the same forget-me-not border at the same depth, here running around the full circumference with slightly more space given to the sprays on the wider surface. The interior is plain white bone china. The backstamp, printed in blue, reads: ROYAL ALBERT / BONE CHINA / ENGLAND / Memory Lane, surmounted by the blue crown device with forget-me-not sprays incorporated into the mark itself.

Condition 

Very good used condition. Both pieces are free from chips, cracks and crazing. The bone china body is clean and unfaded. There is light gilding wear at the rim of the sugar bowl and at the handle terminal of the cream jug, consistent with careful regular use — honest wear appropriate to pieces that have been enjoyed and well looked after. The transfer decoration is crisp and the colours are good. Presentable and display-ready.
