Vintage Royal Albert Old Country Roses Set of 6 Soup Bowls — Fine Bone China, 20cm, Perfect Mint Condition, First Quality
The world's best-selling china pattern. Six perfect bowls. Mint condition.
If there is one china pattern that has graced more tables, been gifted at more weddings, and brought more beauty to more everyday moments than any other in the history of fine bone china, it is Royal Albert Old Country Roses. First introduced in 1962 — the copyright date clearly visible on every backstamp — it became the best-selling fine china pattern in the world, a title it has held for decades, and it shows absolutely no signs of relinquishing it.
This is a set of six Royal Albert Old Country Roses rimmed soup bowls in fine bone china, in absolutely mint, unused, first quality condition — and finding six matching bowls in this state together is a genuinely rare and wonderful thing.
Each bowl is a feast for the eyes before a single drop of soup is poured. The generous 20cm rimmed form provides a wide, elegant flange that showcases the full glory of the Old Country Roses pattern — clusters of deep crimson roses, soft yellow roses, blush pink buds and rich green foliage arranged in flowing repeating garlands around the entire rim, every bloom painted with the luminous depth and naturalistic detail that has made this pattern so enduringly beloved. The bone china body is pure, translucent white — that characteristic Royal Albert whiteness that seems almost to glow from within — and the rim is finished with a richly applied gold edge that catches the light with a warm, luxurious gleam.
Looking at the close-up detail photographs, the quality of the transfer printing is exceptional — the roses are vivid, sharp and deeply coloured, the gold rim is bright and fully intact throughout all six bowls, and the bone china surface is flawless — no crazing, no scratching, no wear of any kind. These bowls have never been used.
About Old Country Roses
Designed for Royal Albert by Harold Holdcroft and introduced in 1962, Old Country Roses drew inspiration from the lush, romantic rose gardens of the English countryside. The pattern combines deep red, warm yellow and soft pink roses with abundant green foliage in a design of extraordinary richness and warmth. It became the world's best-selling fine china pattern and has never been out of production — a testament to a design so perfectly achieved that generations of collectors have found it simply irreplaceable.
