Some patterns earn their place on the table through fashion; a rare few earn it through something closer to constancy.

Old Country Roses was introduced by Royal Albert in 1962 and went on to become one of the best-selling china patterns in history — a distinction it holds without apology. The design draws on the tradition of the English cottage garden: full-blown crimson roses and open apricot blooms arranged with trailing buds and green foliage against a white ground, the whole bordered in gilt. It is a pattern that makes no concession to restraint, and has never needed to. Produced at the Royal Albert factory in Longton, Staffordshire, and later under the broader Royal Doulton Group umbrella, Old Country Roses has furnished tea tables across several generations and shows no sign of relinquishing its place among collectors of British bone china.

Offered here is a pair of Old Country Roses teacup and saucer duos. Each cup presents the characteristic footed form with a gently flared rim and scrolled handle. The pattern wraps the exterior in the full arrangement — the large crimson rose alongside the open apricot bloom, with buds and trailing greenery filling the space between. A smaller spray decorates the interior at the rim. Each saucer carries the design in a generous border arrangement, leaving the white centre unadorned. Gilt lines the rim, foot ring, and handle of each cup, and traces the shaped edge of each saucer. Both duos are presented together and are sold as a pair.

There are no chips, cracks, or crazing on either cup or either saucer. The gilding is fully intact throughout on all four pieces, with no rubbing, fading, or wear of any kind. Both duos show no signs of use.
