Top o’ the Hill is one of Leslie Harradine’s most enduring designs for Royal Doulton, entering production in 1937 and remaining in the range until 2004 — a tenure of sixty-seven years that speaks to sustained popularity rather than passing fashion. Harradine, who joined the Doulton modelling team in the 1920s, became the defining figure of the classic lady figurine series. The red colourway of HN1834 is consistently regarded as the most sought-after variant within this model.

The figure depicts a standing woman caught mid-gust, her full skirts swept dramatically to one side while her right hand steadies a wide-brimmed bonnet. The bonnet is glazed in a soft sage-cream tone. Her fitted bodice is a deep red with a white lace-trimmed collar, and a multicoloured sash in cream, green and yellow gathers at the waist. The skirt and outer coat are finished in a rich red ground with lighter tonal brushwork — rose and soft pink — creating a convincing sense of movement across the surface. The petticoat beneath is white with green-tinted frilled layers. The modelled base is white with a shallow scalloped edge.

There is a small chip to the brim of the hat. No cracks, restoration, or other damage are present. The glaze and colour remain bright and well-preserved throughout.
